1998 Sentra 1.6 won't start, have fuel and spark, starter and fuel filter great. Makes funny sound when trying to start. Engine check light on. Ran fine yesterday, have had no problems, fuses seem ok.
My daughter needs to drive car 6 hours back to college this coming Friday. Need help fast!

It might be the starter, My mom's sentra did the same thing. have your battery tested, if it is good then most likely the starter. what kind of sound it it, slow dragging sound ?a whirr?

Test each and every injector. Test to see if their resistance is within the specs. I believe it has to be in between 10 and 14 ohms. If it reads more then that injector is most likely your problem. It could be more than one injector so don't stop at the first one, test all of them. Also I'd look at the spark plugs, line up all four next to each other and compare them. Prolly its best if you pull out all four spark plugs after a few attempts to start.
pull the engine check light code using the method described in the heading of this forum or the ga16de 1.6 forum, let us know what the computer is trying to tell you... that will help and fast.
Car started fine this morning as we were getting ready to have it towed. Canceled the tow, checked everything, no code shows up, baffled at this point, but it is running now. Going to let daughter drive it back to school. Thanks for your help.
best of luck and i hope she makes it there ok, sometimes even if your battery is good, the terminals/ wires are filthy, thus causing a voltage leek and this will make the car hard to start or even run

thank you so very much for your advice and help. Drove the car around yesterday, and it acted just fine. Will give daughter "emergency car repair funds", just in case. And she has a cell phone if she gets stranded. What did we do without those?
