I was online at NPM.com and was reading the ask sarah area on the newest issue when i happened upon this answer to a question about a 1995 200sx:

The cheapest/easiest way to handle 300-350whp is to get the gears cryotreated (freeze with liquid nitrogen) and shotpeened (bombarded with tiny steel balls at high velocities) and the tranny case welded, especially between the axle hole and the shift linkage hole, the most vulnerable part. If you want to be extra precautious and have some spare cash burning a hole in your pocket, the B15/P11 trannies are about 15% stronger and require only a few modifications an intermediate tuner can handle. Also use the least aggressive clutch you can to handle the power, and fill the tranny with a good lube like Redline Shockproof Heavy gear oil as insurance.
Now im not so interested in handling that much power quite yet, but if this is true, wouldnt it be possible to do this with the close ratio tranny of a b15?

Thanks,

P11 is the best overall tranny! The ratio's are better. MANY people are making BIG power (400+) on stock P11 trannies.
The P11 and B15 tranny they are refurring to are from the SR20DE engine only, so to better answer your question... yes, they'll fit your b14 if it's an SE-R or SE-L.

darn... i dont have a sr20. Ok here is a better question, is there anyway that i can get a better gear ratio in my car? i know they used to sell a final drive gear in the motorsports catalog but i have had zero luck in finding anywhere that would have it or the information. i would really like to have a much closer ratio in my GA16DE. Thanks.
I remember reading somewhere on here, but don't remember where, that the japaneese 1.6L motors came with a better geared transmission than what the U.S. recieved, but 1, they are impossible to find, and 2, pricey as a bastid and usually not worth the effort....for the same amount, you can swap a sr20.

More marginal info.... Your on a roll man!
Only ONE JDM tranny had better overall ratio's and it is SUPER rare. it is outof an N13 and has an LSD. The other JDM tranny;s were the same as the NX1600's which has different gearing bu the real benefit is the final drive. The Nissan motorsports final drive or the NX final drive would help overall.
The cryo-treating and shot peening will help with strength of the gearset, but at this point I have yet to see a power related failure of a GA gearset. You are more likely to blow up the tranny by powershifting.
thanks for the info wes. so i should just get a motorsport catalog and get the finaldrive from there then. anyone have any idea how much that would run?
thanks guys.
