my car has started to rattle. ar first, it started to rattle when I hit about 90mph and would only last until I turned the car off and back on. it sounds like a loose bearing or a pully rattling. I can't pinpoint the exact location of the noise, because it's coming from the side of the engine where all the pulleys are, and there's too much going on to pinpoint it. My belts are new, and they are tight. Last night, after going for a topspeed run, it rattles constantly. and I still cannot pinpoint the noise. I've tried searching, and I'm not finding anything quite like this. any help would rock.

How about giving us more details on the car, model, milage etc.
You say the belts are new, did you check the condition of the idler pulley ?
Does the noise go with engine speed or road speed?
Mine has a rattle in the exhaust shielding, is it something like that ?
It's a 97 200sx GA16DE with 115k original miles. I have not checked the condition of the idler pully, and it gets louder based on higher rpms. I've had a couple of other people look at it, and they are both saying how they also think it's coming from the area with the pulleys.

Based on others comments here at 100k miles plus the timing chain tensioner / guides etc start to get noisy.
The comments made suggest the uppers go first.
I suggest you read the threads on the timing chain problems.
I am at 80,000 so have not reached this problem yet....
Good Luck......
