maybe the little rod that attaches the door handle to where it opens has came off. I'm not sure how hard it would be, but try to take the door panel off to check it out. you may also have to take the back seat out for room since your going to be pressed for space.

The door has to be open to get the screws out. (pics below)

I have a set of headlights tail lights and corners for sale none are yellowed
maybe a slim jim would be the answer. You may be able to jimmy the door open and then mess with it.

Make sure you have the window up if you are using a slimjim, otherwise you aren't going to get to anything lol. Also try removing the little handle part of the door (1st pic that kevtra was so nice to provide) you might be able to get to something there too.
I had this problem once, but it was just the outside handle. after some investigation, i realized that someone tried to break iinto my car and jacked up the little plastic connection between the handle and the latch. Not to mention some paint, the weather seal, and the chrome trim around the window
The mechanism is right behind the handle and unless you have little hands you'll need to take the window out to get in there easier. When you do get in there check all the little blue/green clips and make sure they are still there or intact. and if you can't figure out the map of how they're suppose to be connected then use the other door.
