Headlights acting funny

The other night, on my trip back from Chicago, my headlights suddenly stopped working. I had fog lamps, and high-beams, but no headlights. Looked for a fuse under the hood, couldn't find any headlamps fuse, and gave up. After getting back on the road with foglamps only, I honked, and the lights suddenly lit up! I also checked the headlight connectors under the hood, and they seemed fine, so I'm at a loss to explain. Anyone here want to take a shot at it?

More symptoms -

Tonight, only one of the headlights would light up. Tapped on the one that wouldn't light up, and it lit up immediately. I have a feeling it's a lose connection, but I looked around for 15 minutes, and couldn't find any lose connections..

the connectors on the headlights can sometimes develop shorts in them, depending on how much use they have had, once the head light heats up they can make all different kinds of problems, if you cant find a short. try going down to you local hardware store and getting a connector that fits those bulbs, exp. 9005, 9006. see if that helps, there cheap like 6 or 7 bucks.
