Hello,

My car is a manual transmission Nissan Sentra XE, year 1993 and I am planning to replace a bad alternator.

The FSM says the alternator should be

LR170-738C, by Hitachi
or
A5T04392A, by Mitsubishi

I have found a model that begins with LR170 but the last part number is not 738C.

Can anyone tell me if I should buy it ?

And I would really appreciate to finally understand in the part number the meaning of
LR170, and 738C.

I hope it is not some serial number...

good luck with the part #'s. the alternator i replaced in mine was a bosch, no idea what part number it was though.

I just went to autozone and they gave me the one i needed...

My original alternator (a Hitachi job) gave up in 1997, when the car was about 5 years old. I got a remanufactured one at the Zone (not a Hitachi--so I was a little suspicious of it), but the thing has worked fine. I have no complaints.

But I am trying to see about a powerful aftermarket alternator, because I'm gonna install a new sound system. Surely some company makes a bolt-in unit for my car?
