Our 92 Sentra will not start. The lights come on, but when we attempt to crank it, nothing happens. Tried a jump, but nothing happened. Does this sound like a starter issue, or am I just overlooking something?
Hmm i have that same problem with my 94 Sentra..When I took it in, they checked the battery and the alternator and said that they were both working fine and that it most likely was that starter...I'd get it checked tho before goin out and getting a new one...The weird thing about it is that it only happens to me when i was my car...i dont kno why, i live in washington too, so its not like it doesnt get its fair share of water..
Thanks. I did try to clean the leads as they were heavily corroded, but that didn't seem to help. Thanks for all the advice, I am pretty sure it is the starter.
you will need two people for this,
jack up your car, get under it, have your friend start it, and tap the the starter when it cranks. also have a good friend that you trust or a family member, if it starts like that . then its your starter
I had the exact same problem with my '92, and in that case, it was the starter. luckily, my dad had a buddy with a giant-ass track, who juiced my car up enough for me to get home lol.
get a spare battery and run direct power with 2 cables to the starter if nothin happens then its beat, o by the way do this when tis out of the car idk if it would mess up any electronics or gears, its justa double check method for the starter
I'd just take the starter out and take it to a shop and have them bench test it. Then you can pick up another while you're there. You could also find an alternator/starter rebuilder in your area, that might be cheaper.

funny thing about that... it's that whole danger thing. BUT more that your just forcing the soloid to go in. If that does work, you just need a part of the start replaces, not the whole thing. But it will need be taken out. We use to do that with our equipment in the field (HMMWV's, forklifts and what now) and it worked, but we knew what the problem was if it did.
You didnt say if it was an automatic or manual tranny. If it is a manual then you might want to try the clutch interlock. If this is bad then your Sentra might not start due to this and give you the indications that you are experiencing ie lights come on but will not crank. Hope this might help.
I had the same thing on my 94. I was able to get a rebuilt starter for about $40 so it wasn't too bad. I guess this is fairly common for the sentra? My car is on it's third starter.
