I have a 1991 nissan sentra e. This weekend, all of a sudden I had no power...it sorta felt like I was running out of gas. I put gas and the car continued to feel powerless, the idle was very shaky and the muffler sounded louder. Took the thing to Pep Boys and they gave it a compression test which indicated that the 4th cylinder was dead, or not showing any compression. It's now in the hands of a very lazy mechanic (friend of a friend) who cannot tell me what it is or if it is fixable. Does anybody have any idea???

Do you have a actual mechanic around (non-lazy) that could take a look at it? That might help.
were u running hot, and is there smoke coming out of the tail pipe. almost like steem, if so check your oil and anti freeze , if both are discollored then u blew a head gasket, if not then u may have jumped your timing somehow, never heard of a case of that with a ga16de yet though so im bettin on head gasket
I had a bad/shorted plug wire recently. Ran on 3 cylinders. Last winter flooded the Sentra. All the extra gas in the cylinders gave it poor/no compression. Mechanic squirted oil in cylinders to make up for the oil the gas washed off cylinders walls. Started and ran fine after adding the oil. If you have a bad plug wire, and the injector is still pumping, maybe the cylinder with no compression is flooded with unburned gas. Or, if an injector is stuck opened, it may be flooding the bad cylinder. When the plugs were pulled, was the one on the bad cylinder wet? Or, if you look in that cylinder, is gas standing?
