ok, i have learnt that the sr16ve has the same block as the sr20. just different storke and bore.... so does that mean if i get an sr16ve, i can get a gearbox for a sr20de? or will i need the sr16ve gearbox because of different gear ratios???
if the sr16ve and the sr20VE have the same block again, would it be the same difficuilty to do the sr20VE compared to the sr16VE.... and then again to the sr20DE????

Swapping an sr16ve or sr20ve is just like swapping an sr20de with the exception of hooking up the extras for VVL. An sr20de tranny will work on both sr16ve and sr20ve. Basically to do a ve swap you need everything you'd need for an sr20de swap with the ve motor instead of the de motor. Both ve motors are just as easy to swap.

If you live in NZ why would you do this? You get VE equipped Nissans from factory. Just sell the egg, and grab up a Pulsar VZ-R or whatever you can get your hands on. Honsetly it will be cheaper to get a nice VE Nissan, and swap all the gear into the NX.

wow, no it wouldnt!!
a pulsar vz-r sells for apx $7,000 AT LEAST most are $12,000.
if i was to buy one of those, i wouldnt take anything out of it, i would sell the nx.
to do an sr20de swap, it would cost me apx $3k including labour and all the little extras, right down to a shift light.
thats from buying a ritten off skyline (there are plenty of those here)
even more of them with out the engine.
that leavs me wanting a skyline, with no engine..... and then all i need to find is the sr20ve..... or i just be patient and wait for some one to get rear ended in the SR20VE powered car, or do enough damage for the insurance to rite it off.
the main thing i am concearned about now though... is if i find an sr16ve, and its at a nice price, will the gear box of an sr20de be alright with it, or will i loose out on power because of the gear ratios????

Well your the one who lives there. You'd know.

In the US VE's are only imported, so everyone uses an SR20DE tranny. Everyone I've seen anyway.

Did you even read my post? If you did you'd see that I said yes to the sr20de tranny. As for loosing out on power I have yet to hear of someone having power issues by doing this.
