Angry Electrical System Problems

92 Sentra 1.6L. The car was dying at night and I noted the alternator wasn't charging. At the following items stopped working; The Dash lights, radio, blinkers, heater, wiper, AC, Stereo, key wont come out of ignition, brake lights, hazard lights, gas gauge, power mirrors, wipers, dome light.

I replaced the Alternator thinking the battery benig drained would halt electrical circuits such as lights and such. After replacing the alternator charged the battery and the car starts, but none of the above items work.
The head lights do work though.

I pulled All fuses in the dash, by the battery and all do not visibly appear blown. Any Ideas?

There's a fusible link right off off the battery, it's a black connector looking thing. See if that's blown. What probably happened was when your alternator was on it's way out, it cuased a current overload and blew that fusible link.

I saw the fuse link and pulled it apart, but I couldn't tell if it was bad, how can I determine if its blown? Thank you for taking the time to reply.

That was the problem, the fusablelink was blown. I replaced it and it blew right away. Sounds like something is grounding out somewhere.

Do you know how many amps that fusible link is rated at? The reason I ask is because your radiator fans and ABS have their own 30A fuses, so if either of those were causing the problem, they would blow before the fusible link would if it's higher than 30A. By that same notion, the rest of that circuit has even samller fuses. So I'm guessing it's something with your alternator.
