Whats that burning smell?

so while im out getting some lunch earlier today a civic hatchback rolls up to me and revs up next to me. he looks over and i kick into "speed racer" mode. so once the light turns green ZOOM!!! im off and i hear him going into third gear and maybe like 2 or 3 car lengths behind. this is all happening while im am barely in 2nd gear still. so once i slow down cuz i dont like to push my car cuz if something goes wrong i dont have money to fix it. so all of a sudden there is this burning smell in my car.

its not the brakes cuz i slowed down like norman and i know what burning brakes smell like. ive smelled burning oil before but im not sure if thats what it was. i checked the engine bay and i saw oil in the normal places. there is always a small small small bit of oil around my valve cover but nothing elsewhere. my car does not leak anywhere. so im wondering what it could be. Any suggestions out there guys? i could use your help. <----thats shit always makes me laugh.

possibly oil or something burning off of the exaust manifold, racing like that would make that stuff heat up real hot real fast.
