Changing in Motion

I have a question about changing an automatic's gears while driving. Where I live I have to drive down a really long steep hill to get to anywhere. Most people up here have warped rotors because of riding their brakes all the way down. I really don't want that. The other day I went down the hill in second gear, but I put it in second as I was moving. This helped so much, I didnt have to put my brakes on but two times. So, good idea to put it in second while I'm driving or not? Remember it's an automatic tranny.

There's no problem with manually shifting down an auto trans and holding it in gear on a hill. However, don't do it a too high a speed or you'll over-rev the engine.

I do it all the time here on the bridges (since there are no mountains here). The car can actually go up to 65 in 2nd gear with an automatic without passing the redline.
