Turning radius

well, i finally just got my car back from the mishap that messed up my suspension. replaced all the struts, front steering knuckle, control rod, tie rod. all on the passenger side. The ride is really firm now. But, I was making a left U-turn and I couldn't even make it with three lanes to work with. Almost got in a freaking accident again. With the handle turned all the way left, it only goes as much as the handle turned right 3/4 of the way. I have to always pull in twice to park on the left side in a lot. What need adjusting? What do I tell the mechanic to look at to adjust this problem? Thanks.

Hi... that sounds like an out of alignment front or rear wheels. The tie rod end must be adjusted... have the car checked and aligned.
Have you checked if one wheel seems to "turn" more to one side than the other? does the car "pulls" to one side at the highway?

actually, it does pull a lot on low speeds, to the right... on highway, not so much... this probably doesn't have anything to do with problem, but when i shft from first to second at high rpm, it pulls left kinda hard... the mechanic told me he had aligned it. but i guess i can go somewhere else, or ask him again.

Ok, if it pulls to the right if you try to turn left will be more difficult since one or both tires are looking to the right... alignment problem i guess.... that happened to me a week ago when i changed the tie rod ends... but not that hard... alignment must be done with electronic equipment and it's a very exacting process, not to be done at home or mechanic who doesn't have the proper equipment. Out of alignment tires will have a very sort life also.

You sound like you're on the money. I'll get it aligned. I was going to get it aligned anyways, cvause i have a long trip this weekend, but the mechanic said it was done. Who knows. Thanks again.

Yep, get it properly aligned.... you WILL feel the diference, also driving your car the way it is now will trash your tires and it's dangerous since if you turn right the car will turn faster than left.

One important thing is to ask the alignment shop to check the tie rod ends and control arm bushings/balljoints to make sure they're ok too... if not, it will be a good moment to change them, then do the alignment.

Good luck!
