It is hard to explain without pictures.
I would advise getting an inexpensive Haynes manual from Autozone. It will have pictures that will show you what each component looks like and where it is.
A quick way to check if base idle is your problem is to open up the base idle screw more and see if it still stalls. It still won't be set accurately but at least you will know you're on the right trail.
On the B14, this screw is on top of the manifold, at the oposite end from the throttle body. It is just a big plastic screw with a phillips head cross in it and knurled edges for easy twisting by hand.
On the B13, I assume it is still at the same end but it may be under or around the manifold. If you have a friend who knows where it is, ask.

Cleaning the IACV assembly is more difficult, get the manual before you try that.
