I have a '94 Sentra XE. I have a problem with the dash and center console backlight. When I first start up the car, the clock on the dash will light up( not really that bright). But as soon as I turn on the headlights, that light will turn off and the dash backlight that's supposed to turn off doesn't. There is no light in the cabin at all when the headlights are turned on, except for when I turn on the light that's on the ceiling(don't know what its called).

Anyone have any clue as to what's wrong? I plan on taking it to get repaired this weekend. But would like to know what might be causing this. Thanks for any help.

This happened to my car too...it was about 20 below and there was 5 feet of snow on the ground. When I turned on my lights the dash illumination turned off..then when I turned my lights off, the dash relit.. I hit the dashboard really really really hard multiple times and ever since it has worked just fine.. Oh yea, I have a 94 sentra xe. If you find anything specific let us know.. I have never heard of this problem and surprised that another has encountered it.

I've simulated a drumset on my dashboard a lot of times. My right light goes out when its really cold in the morning but when it warms up it comes back on. Oh I also have Blue LEDs in place of the regular bulbs.
