Okay, so I buy this really neat NX 2000 at about 103,000 miles, figuring that I'll just replace the CV joints and have a nice ride. Clutch was just replaced, as well as one of the PS pump lines.
Then discover the A/C doesn't work. Tracing that problem down in between:
The starter goes.
The alternator rear bearing starts to squeal.
Now it just threw the serpentine sorta belt while I was sitting at a stoplight.
When I got married, my wife had an '85 Pulsar that ran like a top all the way to 150K + miles, never needed anything other than expensive CV boots and two clutches (first one was defective).
Don't Nissan parts last beyond 100K miles any more?
It's not really a mileage issue. It's an age issue. I don't see how you can complain about belts, and accesories going bad on an 11-13 year old car.
I would guess engine mounts are next, if you are looking for a heads up. Also a tune-up will surely put a smile on your face if your ignition is in need of maintinence.
Thanks for the heads up. The belts were obvously only about 2 years old, and I probably shouldn't complain about those because rubber is a known maintenance item.
Just a little frustrating because the alternator started up literally when I took it down from the ramps after changing out the starter.
See another new thread started by yours truly, asking whether this NX is soo special that there is no way to find the right belts for it...
dunno mang....my b13(GA16) lasted for 248k miles with no real issues...maybe your just having some bad luck on this B13(NX)
car is still running fine..i threw the SR20 in it..but im sure my GA16 would still be running
I picked up my SE-R at 150k...cheap...and it went another 15k before the timing chain tensioner went wacky and the chain jumped and proceeded to bend the valves. Got another low mileage motor off e-bay and am in the process of installing it...still have some questions about that though..I'm new to Nissans and SE-R's in particular
Found out this weekend that the prior owner installed a non-A/C engine in it and just bolted on the Compressor without changing out the pulley.
The wide Alternator belt was apparently running out there in the breeze on the crank pulley side and finally cut itself to pieces, taking out the water pump belt in the process while still staying on the pulley with its narrower remains.
That explains why the proper water pump belt didn't fit. Needed 36 inches length on that on as this is configured.
Now I'm in the market for a stock crank pulley. I imagine it's smaller on the inside for a 4-groove belt, then bigger on the outside for the 6-groove alternator & A/C belt.
Sounds very familiar. I just recently purchased a NX2000 too as a commuter with 107K miles. Spent quite a bit getting it up to my standards and still spending. So far changed out the struts (due to one being blown, had to change the springs too ;P ), Tires, Valve Cover GasketWires, Transmission Fluid, Air Filter, Plugs, Cap, Rotor, PS Hose, Stereo, Speakers, Rear hatch struts, Repaired a number of things... But remember it's a 13 year old car. That I got cheap that now runs like new... My first Nissan and so far it's been nice. That should be a compliment since I'm comming from a Honda background. (Still have the 2 integras and a crx for fun) But it looks like this Nissan might turn out to be a keeper now.
