About to buy a 93 Sentra

Well since the accident a a few months ago its time to buy another car. I was coming home from the gym today and saw a 93 Sentra for sale. Gave the guy a call and he wanted 1500 for it. The cars a manual and has 100k miles.

Im going to try to get him down to 1000.

My main question is what are some common problems I should be looking for before purchasing?

I'll be taking a test drive tomorrow n let u guys know how it goes..

BTW its an SE. Whats the main difference(s) between the SE and XE?

thanks
Jesse

Sentras will go forever if you take care of it. Wish I had got a SE or SE-R(more so SE-R lol). The SE has the wing on the back, different(better) front with fog lights, usually better black interior, a tach, bigger wheels with real rims not hub caps. That's what I can think of right now, maybe rear discs I'm not sure. Sentras arent known to have alotta problems like FORD (F**K OUR RIDE DIED) ..ford.

Thanks for the info. I would have loved an SE-R also. As you can tell by my username I had a 89 Sentra so I know how reliable these cars are. If it wasnt because of a possible drunker driver I would still have my car today.

Thanks for the info.

Jesse

The 93 SE has a bigger front spoiler, rear deck spoiler, painted bumpers, tach, SE-R comparable front/rear seats, gas lid release from inside as opposed to a key, rear "oh-sh%#" handles, and a few other odds and ends.

The 93 SE DOES NOT come with bigger rims. It comes with 13" steelies with hubcaps as opposed the SE-R 14" rims. It also does NOT have foglights. This was an SE-R *only* option. The SE DOES NOT and never did come with rear disc brakes, just he SE-R.

How do I know this? I own a 93 SE.

Thanks for clearing that up. Any power options for this car?

If you are referring to the SR20 engine, then yes. There are more than enough to keep you working for a long time. Check out se-r.net. Since I don't own the SE-R I'd hate to pass along bad info. But yes, every bolt-on thought to man is available for the SE-R.

No worries. With the SE you get p/s and cruise control. No p/w or locks.

Thanks eugenefl. I wasn't sure on the brakes. The SEs I see around here usually do have rims on them, which I don't often see SE's. No fog lights? Damn I thought they did.

Well I test drove the car and it rode and sounded nice...

The clutch catches a little high. It might need adjusting or maybe a whole new clutch possibly.

The guy selling it is selling it for a family friend whose the orginal owner. He said the cars been sitting there for 2 weeks and when I started it there was no smoke at all... All the fluid levels were good.

I'll be taking it to a mechanic @ 2:30 just to get an expert opinion but by the looks of it I may be the owner of a 93 Sentra SE by tonight

No worries. Just glad to clear it up. The 91-92 came with rims, but they are 13". No foggies on the SE's ever.

Good news and back news...

Bought it to the mechanic and he looked it over and its going to need 4 new tires. Not a big deal.

He also said the tranny was going and might have to be replaced within the next 20k miles. I took this as good news though. It gave me a reason to bring the price down to $900 and an excuse to swap the sr20 in there

I'll post some pics tomorrow. Thanks for all the help you guys gave..

Jesse
