Car stalls at stop unless I put it in neutral

its a 92 automatic, the idle is a little sputtery off the bat, but when i stop kind of sudden it will stall unless i throw it in nuetral, most of the time when the heat, lights and other things are on, but sometimes when thats all off. Its a bitch pulling into parking spots having it stall in the middle of a turn. Im wondering if it could be the battery since its been drained a lot during its life due to terrible autozone alternators. hoping its something electrical since i know the brakes take a hell of a lot of power from the batt. Any input is greatly appreciated.

did you do a voltage test on the battery and the alternator? why are all those dash lights coming on? if plugs/wires are relatively new and good i'd try looking at fuel also.

Thanks, no voltage test. The batt is brand new and so is the alternator, although it is my 3rd one in 2 years from autozone

I guess it's possible you might have some kind of intermittent short somewhere but I'd rule out the basics first. You can get those cheap voltage testers from parts store...when car is off and you test battery it should be 12 volts...when car is idling, you should get 14-15 if alternator is okay.

when was the last time the spark plugs were changed? might want to look at that too.
