I am having problems trying to open my transmission case. It is out of the car and is laying with the bellhousing on the ground. I have taken off all the bolts to the case that mounts to the bellhousing section. According to the FSM (Section MT-13 in the '91 FSM), I should be able to lift it up while slightly tilting it to prevent the 5th shift fork from interfering with the case. The only problem is that I can only get it to move about a tenth of an inch and wont move any more. The case will not come off! Has anyone been able to open up their transmission? Any help would be appreciated. My car is a '92 Sentra SE-R.
Yes, I opened mine when I did the auto > manual swap. There is a few places on the case that allow you to use a screwdriver or prybar to pry the 2 halves apart. It won't just pull apart by lifting it, since it is sealed w/ RTV. It doesn't take much prying to get it apart though.

Thanks for the info. I even tried using the largest screwdriver. It wont open any more than a 10th of an inch. It is broken free of all of the RTV. I can put the screwdriver all the way around. It seems like something is still holding it together though. I even took the top round cover off to see if there was anything there that could still be holding it together. I saw the shaft there and there was a snap ring on the end of that. I removed that just to see if any part of that was holding it together, but still no luck. Is there anything else I could be missing? I am trying to be careful so I dont screw up the mating surfaces because I dont want it to leak when I reseal it or busting anything by trying to force it open.
Is there anyone out there that can help me figure out what is going on? This should be simple. Is there anyone that lives in the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area that could maybe lend me a hand? I do not want to resort having to take this somewhere to have it opened and get charged something ridiculous when majority of the work is done. I will even bring it to your shop/garage if you do not want to come here.
It was a PITA to get mine off, too. Just grab the sides and keep pulling, eventually it should come free. You do hafta tilt the case a lil as you pull it off, like the book says. I think it's a bearing that causes that agony. Good luck.

Can I put a turbo in my non-turbo? Yes. The trunk is quite large.
Can I put a Supercharger in my Z31?Yes. You can probably put it next to the turbo.
Can I put a Z32/newer 300ZX/VG30DETT in my Z31? This one is iffy. You'd have to disassemble it to get it in the trunk.
I already took off a snap ring that was under the small round cover on the end. That is the only one I am aware of. Are there any others?
There is a small one and a big one IIRC. The big one was a Beyatch. This was over 6mos ago and I can barely remember last week so I might be mistaken. IM me if you need more help. JME921 (aol)
