ive got some hella 500 fogs off of my cherokee that i am putting on the front of my 1991 sentra. i sourced a rear de-fog/froster push button switch from another sentra. id rather just slap it into the dash then drill holes. i want this to look factory inside.
the switch/plug combo is 6 bladed (i got the wiring clip that plugs into it).i am using a auto zone 5 bladed relay and will use a 30a inline.my problem comes in figuring how to wire the defog switch.
i have wiring diagrams, just cant link them because they are .pdf but here is the addy if it helps
gotta go to 1991-->sentra-->1.6l-->wiring diagram-->1991-1993 chasis wiring diagram and its the 1st page bottom right hand corner. http://www.e-toolbox.com/ads/
ive thought about just runing the hot through the relay to the lights and have the defog switch just control the ground, but if possible id like to have the indicator light work so i know when they are on.
To wire it like it was factory, check to see if there is a R/Y wire present in the factory lighting switch. If there is, see if there's voltage to it when the headlamps are turned on. If so the do the following: splice into the R/Y on the lighting switch, use this to power the relay coil, terminal 86. Run the ground side of the relay coil, terminal 85, to the defrost switch to a terminal that you'll connect to another terminal that you can get continuity to ground when the switch is closed. Then use a battery to figure out which two terminals go through to the backlight. Connect one terminal to the R/Y wire going to the backlight at the cigarette lighter, and the other terminal to the R/L wire at the cigarette lighter. Connect a wire lead to the battery to an inline fuse holder and then to your relay terminal 87. Connect terminal 30 to your light positive wire, and your lights ground to a good ground and you're done. Your backlight will operate like it was factory and will dim with the dimmer switch as well. If you didn't have the R/Y wire at the lighting switch, or it had no power, find another hot on terminal to splice into instead. You won't overload anything since you're just running a relay coil.

well if you saw the car you'd know its function over form. i bought it with 109k, ac, 5spd, cd player, new tires, new exhaust. i drive backroads, 2 lane highways mainly, that are straight for a mile or two at a time at night on a regular basis. this is virtually the only time this car sees the road. driving 3k miles a month through deer country, im not about to hit one at 65mph and total/ lose this $600 car because i didnt install some aux. lighting that i had sitting on the jeep doing nothing.
thanks for the info toolapcfan, electronical know how is one of my weaknesses.
