Did anyone else have this problem with their sentra mine is a 92 XE and i have seen so many more on the road in toronto with the same problem was there a recall or something?? here is a pic to describe what i mean...look at the hood...it continues on the roof where all the paint has chipped away and onto the trunk however the strange thing is that the side panels (places not exposed to thesun) are in PERFECT shape and nice and shiny anyone eles??
sorry to say my cars paint is startng to do that also. hood, roof and trunk. i see alot of b13s mostly darker colors like black, blue etc. in my area with similar paint problems. it seems to be the clearcoat fading away, blame it on the weather, old age or just a crappy paint job by nissan who knows. sadly the only cure is a new paint job which will cost mucho dinero!

maybe it is the salt or something...but i went to nissan when it first started happening maybe ...3-4 years ago and they were quite arrogant about NOT doing ne thing?? i was like WTF!??? so now my dad insists on driving it around using it as bad press for nissan haha ahhh well....adds to the sleeper effect i guess...
the thing is if i just need a st8 paint job i would do it.....but i have rust on the fenders along the side ... so i hear that is gonna cost me ALOT unless i can just use body filler or something myself
I have my gloss black '92 GXE here in Omaha, NE and it snows here and we have a lot of salt on the roads during the winter and my paint is holding up, just some rusting on the driver side rear wheel well, that is coming off with rust remover applications quite nicely... :-D
I know it will add some weight, but why dont you guys spray some kind of rino liner under and in the wheel wells to help prevent rust. Lucky for me i dont have that problum. I live in the dam desert.
Haha! As I type w/ my rubbing compound smelling hands, you guys have this thread going. My sisters 90 Mazda is doing the same thing. I just got back in from trying to remedy, well at least make it look much better and I think it's going to turn out ok. Here's what I'm doing. What you see, the flakey white stuff is the clear coat coming off. the shiney part obviously still has it on. What you can do is use rubbing compound to get the white flaky stuff off. This won't provide a continuous color because your paint has some w/ clear coat some without but you won't be able to tell from a distance. You need to be careful using rubbing compound though. It's VERY abrasive, almost like liquid sandpaper, it basically is. You can easily take off the paint if your not careful. It's worth a try. So use the rubbing compound and then wax the area. Probably it would be a good idea to polish the areas w/o clear coat so that you can get any of the loose paint up so that when you wax you will get a good coat on. Her car is maroon. Many dark colors have this problem. I had a white car that did the same thing though, you just don't notice it because it's white. This is a cali car, so it's not the salt probably. I know many cars in the desert have this problem, it could be very hot days and debris in the paint. It also could be weather Minerals eating away at the clearcoat.
