Mechanic Cant Advance Timing???

Ok, here is the deal. I am having the car restored and my mechanic tells me that he cant advance my timing because the car is Fuel Injected and doesnt have a Carborator. How have you guys done this? I need something to tell him to get him to do it since I dont have my own timing light. I need to find out asap since I am picking it up tonight. Thanks a lot.

If you have an SE-R, go to http://www.se-r.net and do a search on doing timing. Do the timing on your own, that way you won't have to worry about some mechanic who doesn't know what he is talking about.

Don't let that monkey anywhere near your car. You need a new mechanic.

Lol, he said that any car after 1981 cannot have the timing advanced. He must have been thinking of domestics or something. I have a Ga16 and I just got directions that I printed out. He said he could do it on a car with a Carborator though. Thanks guys.

What a dingus. It's easy to advance timing on an OBD I GA, you simply warm the car up and loosen the distributor bolts and advance it. I would seriously not have this guy work on my car if he didn't know something that simple.

Tell me he's not your mechanic any more. haha..
What sucks on my 91 SER is that the timing needle on the motor broke off and after looking at one in the junk yard which cost $50. I would need to replace the whole section that holds the timing needle, unless any one has another solution. I recently discovered the motor had been swapped for another one so figure it was broken off when it was installed. It wont pass smog without the timing needle.

I live near London, which is in Southeastern Ky. Another guy from the shop called me back and said that he could do it but the car would ping when going up hill. He didnt have time to do it at that visit but he said he could do it next time. To top it off when I got my car back it was making new noises and it sounds like my a chain is rubbing on some metal. This is crazy.

If its pinging, keep in mind that you will have to run higher octane go juice now, no more cheap. Make sure he advanced it and not retarded it. How is your power?
