I'm going to turbo my SE-R with a BB T25 but I really don't want to be all obvious about when I'm cruising around on the street. I'd rather stay away from an exhaust with 3" piping and a huge-ass tip. I'm trying to retain my sleeper look. I'm interested in getting the HKS Sport exhaust but it's only a 60mm pipe. So my question is, do I really need bigger than that? Will I be losing power or will it still be a gain over the stock J-spec BB piping? Is there an exhaust system with larger piping but still sleek and not overdoing it?
the majority of your exhaust note will come from the muffler. if you want a quiet sound then go with a good quality muffler. something other then a straight through design.
i'd stay away from anything cheap or anything not made of stainless steel. and like i said before, if you want quiet then go with something other then a straight through design: something with sound dampeners.
i have a magnaflow muffler and it's a straight through design but its waaaaaaaay quieter then my old obx straight through. then again my obx muffler retailed for $150 and the magnaflow retailed for $300.
with stock boost 60mm should be fine. i have a greddy sp thats 50mm and its restricting the flow when i turn up the boost and so i'm not getting much more power. hks is good quality and won't be too loud. try going 70mm...doesn't mean it has to be a huge tip.
Go 3" from the turbo back. You can get a nice 3" muffler, and just dont put a tip on it, then your exhaust will look stock with just a 3" tip. Instead of getting a smaller exhaust, then spending more money to get a bigger one, just do it right the first time. Remember, your car will be a lot quieter with the turbo, even with a 3" exhaust.
Im running a 2.5 DP to a hollowed cat to an Apex N1 Turbo muffler...loud as hell but when the silencer is in it is REALLY quiet...no drone no sound at all...you'd be surprised...I was...i didn't think silencers helped as much as mine did....not really sleeper though....the black one is a little....

Go get a muffler(peashooter) from a 1.6 & cut it off where the pipe meet the muffler. Put on car for the real sleeper look, but use a 3" piping & a different muffler & hide it behind the peashooter. Some where in here there was a civic taking on a viper, Ahh.. here it is http://www.nissanforums.com/showthre...ht=civic+viper

I'd recommend doing a 3" mandrel exhaust with a 3" Dynomax Super Turbo muffler. It's going to be quieter than most exhausts with decent flow. If it's still too loud, try adding a 3" Dynomax Ultraflow 6" round muffler or 3" Dynomax Racing Bullet muffler as a resonator. If you'd like flow ratings, I can get them for you (the 2.5" ultraflow has a flow rating of 1133cfm / super turbo 2.5" 410cfm). If you want to check out the design of the Dynomax Turbo muffler, check out their website at www.dynomax.com . The design is a 3 divided muffler.... it's like a straight pipe, preforated but then chopped in 3 parts all in one muffler. Overall the Super turbo is a pretty good design... I don't know of any other company that has a design that will flow as much as their's and keeping the sound levels down.
By the way, you can choose a Super turbo muffler with a longer body or bigger shell to make it even quieter. For more flow and a little deeper idle tone... you can do a 3" in to a dual 2-1/4" exit or even a dual 2-1/2" exit. With that it won't look as modified.... I'd probably go with the 3" in/ dual 2-1/4" since they have both exits on the same side of the muffler. (--00) vs (0--0) vs (--0--)

After thinking about my exhaust.. I should have painted it with black exhaust paint. Would have looked even more stock. If I had the 3" choice... i'd go with the super turbo duals.. just looks better and stock looking rather than having tips... plus you save money from having the tip/tips welded on.
By the way, this is a picture (bad one) of my mandrel exhaust that I sold to Omar:
