Unhappy performance mod suggestions.

Well, I own a 92 xe sentra. I just put rims on it and it looks better than I thought it was going to look. Because of how good it looks, Im going to put some performance in. I was looking at intakes and a full catback. I would be willing to spend this money for parts and all installation but......... will it help my engine? Will the new mod help my engine so it doesn't have to worrk so hard? I don't know if you ever saw the 92 xe airbox and where it is, theres has to be at least 50% restriction. Also any other mods you might know of that will boost a littlehorsepower without hurting the engine? Thanks and I look forward to your answers.

ok, rims add weight which makes the engine work a lot harder. And yes an intake and exhaust will help your engine out immensly, you will notice a huge difference in throttle response, and fuel mileage. Advancing the timing a couple degrees will give you some extra power as well. enjoy playing with your car.

Oh and to save yourself some extra cash try to install some of these items yourself. Intake and exhaust are honestly one of the easiest things to install. Do a search on how-to-install or go to http://www.sentra.net to find out some good info for our cars.

If I could only wind back the clock...

Hindsight 20/20 will tell me to save my loot and go for a motor swap or GA16DE turbo. MY disclaimer - Of course, the Hotshot kit wasn't available when I first started and neither were any real dyno numbers, project cars like Sweet 16 SCC's Project GA16DE, or people like Mike Young. I had no concept of reality about intakes, headers, or exhaust and I had nothing to go by except a bunch of other excited mod-buggers like myself.

You have to get real honest with yourself and face one fact - you've been bitten by the mod bug. Whether you know it or not, or whether you even know what the mod bug is, you are going to find yourself spending a lot of money really soon. How you choose that money is entirely up to you.

One of two things will happen.

1 - You spend near $2,000 to make some GA16DE N/A power and regretfully realize you could have been $500 closer to a BB DET front clip. (Ok, so I didn't spend quite this much nor did I put all of this on my 93 SE, but if I could sell it all back for retail, I'D DO IT!!!)

Shopping list -
$425 HS header
$225 HS intake
$200 UR crank pulley
$250 Catback exhaust
$250 ACT clutch
$500 Reprogrammed ECU
$475+? Cams

2 - You pick up a Hotshot turbo for your GA and be thrilled with the boost. (Back in the day I might have gone this route.) Keep in mind, if your mileage is high I'd not go this route.

Ok, so this is a bit of a harsh reality and I think some GA folks might be a bit bitter over it, but I have my opinion and I just wanted to share my opinion based on my experiences.

Best of luck to you. (BOOST YOUR GA!)

Granted turbos are sweet, but wouldnt you rather have natural aspiration? I mean beating someones ass with out a turbo, My just about stock se-r can take 1.8t's all day, now for the eclipse, he has me, but i am running 126000 miles and i can run with the audi 1.8, I always think what i can do with the money of a good turbo kit and intercooler and see what i could to to make it natural. Just a thought.

He's got a GA16DE. You've got an SR20DE. GA16DE N/A is pretty fruitless and pointless. A turbo will provide far more bang for the buck.
