Permanently installed radar detectors

Does anybody have much experience with remote detectors?

I'm probably going to mount a Whistler model in my car; from what I can tell, they're a pretty good value. You can get 'em with VG-2 protection, too.

I really can't make up my mind as to whether it's worth it to install the laser detector, though. I've known lots of people who got tagged with radar, but I've never heard of anybody getting nailed with laser. Also, the laser reception units are large & conspicuous enough that it seems putting one on the glass by your mirror would actually defeat the purpose of hiding the detector behind the grill & under the dashboard.

I've heard that in Virginia the cops will write you a big ticket & take your detector away from you. Are they so hard-core that this includes installed remote units? Seems as if that would be kind of extreme to go ripping out the wires & all.

different state all together, but my bro got popped by a laser, funny thing was, he was not even 3 cars ahead of him and traveling in the same direction, but the copper got him and he was fairly accurate about his speed.

Funny thing about detectors, if they can tell if a radar is within range of your car, it's already too late. What's a good radar detector cost, around $200? I'd be willing to bet that the radar itself costs a lot more than $200 and has a lot further opreating range than a $200 detector. I'd put the $200 into better brakes, better return on your investment.

valentine one is great. If your on a budget, go with the Bel 980. Its not really to late for radar, even a cheap crappy one has saved me before. Its laser that is usually to late, unless your very lucky. Yes, in VA radar detectors are illegal. I believe its a 50 dollar ticket, and they take the detector. Dont put a detector in your grille. It needs to be as high as possible. check out the valentine website for a ton of good info on detectors.

GO valentine.... bel.. or escort....
I have an Escort 7500 and it works great!
But any radar detetctor you buy can and will detect KA bands... K bands.. and X bands... as well as LASER. Then theres other features for usless stuff like Emergency Vehicles.. etc
but there are only 4 things cops use.. radar and laser...
but anywho....
even though this is illegal.. go out and get an Radar JAMMER
You can have one that is basically a faceplate over the license plate.. (the border) and is undectectable.. and jammes radar and laser.

But if you really want and rader "detector".. try this out.. undectable and un-noticable

BUT.... if you want more info on virtually EVERY radar detector and everything about them and how they work... go here

If you are in traffic with cars in front of you a Radar detector will help you ALOT!!!! But if you are the only car on the road and your radar goes off, most likely you are caught. In traffic the cop is most likely clocking everyone so if there is someone in front of you and he hits them first then your detector will still go off saving you from a ticket.
