Angry Speedo problems HELP

This is my first post ever!!?!?!?!

Ok guys heres my prob.

I just finished putting a JDM motor from soshi(my first time) in my Sentra SE-R its a 1991/93
(chop car) The problem is my speedo is not working I don't know where to start to fix it. You see from I inderstand 91's had a cable and 93's had a electronic speedo. Also I didn't attach a cable when I put the motor in(that I know of). Every other insturment works in the cluster except for the speedo. Where do I start to assess the problem and how to I fix it? Any comments would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Andy

So what year is your car? A '91 or a '93? And what do you mean by "chop car"? The front clip is a different year than the rest of the car? It doesn't really matter what engine you put in, it's the tranny and the cluster you have. If your speedo worked before the swap I can't see what would have changed, as long as you put the same transmission back in. Regardless, if you have an electronic speedo then your transmission needs an electronic speed sensor in it. If it doesn't you can swap out the mechanical sensor for an electrnic one. If your cluster is cable driven then you'd need to swap out the electronic sensor in the tranny for a mechanical one.

speedo
thanks for the reply.

ItS a chop because whoever owned it last wrecked it and used another car to fix. Don't know which one it is because there is 2 diffrent vin numbers on it (91 and 92)
Fortunatly they used another se-r though.

On the tranny there is a(what I thought) a neutral switch and reverse switch, on either side. I guess 1 of them could be the cable sensor.

any more input?

So it's a hybrid of a '91 and a '92, not a '91 and '93 like you originally said? If that's the case then it should be cable driven regardless. '91-'92 Sentra's are cable driven speedos and '93-'94's are electronic. Check the speedo cable on the tranny itself and where it goes into the firewall.

okay lovemyser is my little bro. And to be exact the vin on the dash is a 93 and the vin on the driver side door pillar is has a build date of 12/90. The original engine was a highport. It was replaced JDM stile. The speedo is definitely electronic. Just to clarify. He must have been tired or very haggled when he posted.
