axle problem

Okay, I'm trying to pull the engine and trans out of the SER and I can't get the axles out. We tried and tried. I don't want to gouge anything or tear anything. I'm being very careful. My brother and I started on the drivers side, unhooked everything the axle came about 3/4" out and wouldn't come any further. So we switched to the other side. We unbolted the bearing mount got the axle about 3/4" out and stopped. We can't get it any further. We put tow strap around the bearing carrier. And jerked with all my butt. Nothing, it wouldn't come. It even seemed to pull itself back in a little. I assume the is some type of compression fitting holding in. Anybody got an idea about getting them loose. If jerk any harder with the strap I'll pull it off the Jack stands.

You need a crowbar. Get some rags, put it between the crowbar and part of the tranny housing and use the housing for your pivot point. You may need to try a couple different locations to get it right. There's a circlip on the driver's side that is holding it in there. The passenger's side doesn't have this.

Oh, and get an FSM.

I wish i had the money to buy all the FSM's that I need
Okay, I was going to give another go tonight. The passenger has the same problem, though its the one we put the strap on. Looks like the laws of leverage will have to be applied.
The main problem with prying it out is the car is only about 16" off the ground and there is just no room to work. We'll try again tho.
Thanks, I'm open to all suggestions.
A big magnet maybe.

Did you take the support bearing loose from the engine block on the passenger's side axle? Both of mine popped out easily. I doubt you're goign to be able to jerk them out, you have to pry out the drivers side one. You don't need a long pry bar to do it, you can use a large flat blade screwdriver.

Ha ha, I feel like a dummy. The support was hanging a protrusion of the block. It was unbolted but was just hanging on something. My brother got the driver side out finally we were just being to nice to it. HA hA.
thanks
