Car wont go!

hi all i just picked up a 91 NX2000. the engine runs great but the trans doesn't seem like it wants to go...... its an auto, and everytime i step on the gas pedal it only wants to go so much. even when i punch it when im merging on highways, i gun it and the motor revs up high around 5,000 to 6,000 rpms , but car wont go anywhere!?!?! i did a trans flush, checked fluid level and checked for leaks. no leaks and level ok. could this be my trans dying on me??? or something completely different from transmission??? thanks for your time........

Get an auto transmission shop to give it a service and adjustment to stop it slipping before you get too much wear.

This is a common complaint from cars that have been flooded, Pull up the carpet in the back seat to look for signs of water, mold, etc.
One of the best indicators of a tranny problem is the fluid. Since you have already flushed it, do you remember if the old fluid was brown or smelled burnt?
Either way, you most likely have a slipping internal clutch pack, and rebuild or replace is the only cure.

Unless the internals are shot it should be rebuildable, cheaper than replacing whole box. Get a quote on it.

The gears themselves shouldn't need replacing. Just the internal clutches. I've seen rebuild kits for around $200 online, but that doesn't do much good if you don't have the necessary tools and equipment to yank the engine and transmission out of the car. Shops do rebuilds for around $1000. New transmissions run $1600+.
