I have a 91 Nissan Sentra. I've had it a few years, and I had to let it sit in the driveway as Non-op for awhile. While sitting there I would go out and start it to keep the battery charged and I'd listen to the radio to pass the time. Well unfortunately the battery died and wouldn't keep a charge. Replaced the battery and re-registered it. But the Stereo won't work now. The stereo lights up when the headlights, dash is turned on. Is there a fuse or something I can look at or replace? Or do I have to replace the stereo? If you need more info please ask. Any help is appreciated.
Is this factory or aftermarket? There is a fuse inside most stereos, you need to remove the case to get to it. However, the display won't usually light up if it's blown. Check the main fuse box first, if that's good, put in a tape or cd and listen for the internal hum of the audio source motor.
If you have an aftermarket, it may have been wired directly to the battery......and when you changed batteries, you may have disturbed the wire. Look for a red wire attached to the positive terminal that has an inline fuse( you know, the old glass ones). That fuse could be blown or disconnected.
As far as I know the stereo is factory. The stereo kinda lights up when the headlights are turned on.. it glows. But it won't turn on. I will have to look for a crappy cassette as I was told it eats them for meals.. I did check the fuses in the passenger compartment and it looks fine. I also checked the owners manual and checked the fuses under the hood. None of them where marked for the stereo tho. I didn't know there was a fuse in the stereo. thanks
Thanks for your help. So here's what I did. Took out the radio and checked the fuse. It was blown, I replaced it and hooked it back up again. Still didn't work. Called a Nissan used auto parts place and got a replacement, I get 1 FM station and maybe 3 AM ones..but the cassette player works. I would like to replace it with something more modern.. that plays CD's or I can hook up my Ipod to. What would be a decent low cost replacement? Any help is appreciated.
Sony and a lot of other companies make ipod direct connection stereos for pretty cheap. You control your ipod through the stereo and it charges it as well. You may want to check Crutchfield. Theyre a little pricey but they have great service and send you a complete install kit.
Alpne iDA-x200 media deck. No cd player. Internal amp, pre-outs, and inputs for iPod(that it controlls and charges), mp3 aux, sd card. It basically is just an iPod controller for my use and thay are only $125 NEW. Look into it.
Non-op? Cali? Central ave downtown is the best place, Crutchfield is at least $75 more.
