OK first off Hi guys new to forum and new to this car. Bought it Friday the 21st and am already looking at an issue. Car has been driving fine all weekend. HAd my mechanic look at it and we drove it all over town Sat. Im leaving my mechanics house getting onto the highway and it misses when I shift into 3rd. I gave it a second to calm down and then it shifts with a little resistance. Most of the 5 mile drive is fine on highway 5th gear. When i go to down shift it really has a lot of resistance. Woke up this morning to do some work and now it really is stiff and does not want to shift into any gear. Any ideas? Im HOPING shift linkage or something nice and easy. Not rebuild but hey thats my usual way to get cars.
Should prob say 94 2 door se 1.6 5 speed

Reason: Opps
Bought my 94 on the 22nd. Its cranky going into 2nd from 3rd but no real issues up shifting. I haven't dived into it yet but am going to in the near future.
It appears that I need to adjust my clutch cable a bit. If I push the clutch in a bit farther than I need to with the higher gears I don't have issues. Now I just need to find the time to do it.
I think I'll replace the gearbox fluid as a preventative too.
OK changed the oil, replaced intake. Seemed like the intake was binding the clutch cable. Much better shifting but still first issues. Do these trannys have a first lock out? Secound gear is a lot better but an occasional grind even when clutch fully depressed. Prob need a new clutch soon anyways so just babying it till I do that.
when i had my b13 ga16de, my second gear grinded. Changed the gear oil, new motor mounts, new clutch kit and clutch cable. Still grinded. So i got another transmission. STILL grinded. haha.
But it would only grind real bad when the car was cold, it was stiff going into gear also, i use to double clutch and it wouldnt grind. Wish i had an idea but as you can see mine was just hopeless. I sold that car.
Check your motor mounts, a broken motor mount can cause the motor to lean and may bind your shift linkage, causing a grind.
great will check the mounts. Already wanted to replace those anyways. As for synthetic I believe the stock is already a synthetic. When I got mine changed at the shop my brother in law works at he mentioned that it said to use synthetic.
What's up...
I've been having similar problems as far as the car driving fine for awhile and then all of the sudden not wanting to downshift. What i did was remove the transmission and replace the clutch and cable(since the unstreetable six puck disc and heavy duty pressure plate needed to go). I went to schucks and got a stock replacement kit(fenco brand), put it in and everything was fine...for about two days, and all of the sudden it started doing it again. I knew that the se-r has it's tranny trouble spots, but almost always it's either fifth gear popout or third gear round off, so i was trying to diagnose the problem and ended up throwing my arms up and for the first time in over ten years took the car to ammco to get an opinion on the problem. well about an hour after i dropped the car off they called me up telling me that my brand new clutch disc had broken(one of the springs had popped out and was wedging itself between the disc and pressure plate). So, they gave me the clutch kit which i exchanged for a new one and unfortunately, had to pay them to install it. Everything went great...for about a week, and then driving down the freeway to work i went to downshift from fifth to fourth and to my surprise and dismay, no dice.I hobbled the car home after work and this weekend took it apart again to find yet another broken clutch disc(broken at the exact same spot).I spent this last weekend trying to diagnose what the reason behind this is and ended up with the fact that i am buying ultra cheap crappy parts.
I also noticed a deep wear spot on the inner bellhousing where the diff sits due to the pressure plate rubbing on it. I've ordered a factory clutch and will install it this weekend. Sorry for the ultra long reply but if your still having troubles pull off the tranny and inspect the clutch itself, it could be the problem.
Yeah thats the next thing im planning on doing. The problem is very minimal lately but I havent been driving it much. Registration is out and having to wait a couple of weeks. I havent had a chance to check the clutch cable yet but when I get a chance thats first. Cheaper then a clutch and prob needs it soon anyways.
I hope someone has said that the Nissan clutch cables are worth the extra, people have problems with the non Nissan not lasting. My original cable was still good at 90,000 when i replaced it and the clutch.
It seemed to have stretched about 1/8 of an inch, thats all !!
