after you get the knob off there will be nothing but the shaft to put the new shift knob on....

the shift knob is threaded on... it should unscrew, though on some cars its really hard to get off. You might have to wrap a towel around it and use a pair of channel locks on it.

I have a 1992 Sentra, and the knob is threaded on. The only way there will be a bare shaft left is if you cut off the old knob with a hacksaw.

I always head they were glued on in SE-R's. I know they (SE-Rs) have a different shift boot and knob. Maybe base sentras are different.

do a search on this forum and the sr20de forum, this topic has been covered many times. Nissan does use an adhesive, that is why a lot of owners find it hard to unthread their shift knobs off, without damaging it.

isn't it threaded on.... but applied with glue?

i remember reading somewhere, that you have to twist really hard to break the glue seal, then screw it off.
