Alright now that its startign to get cold in New Hampshire, my car is starting to act up, soemthign it never did during the summer/fall air... ok Wehn I go out to start my car up after its been off all night, or even after work for like 8 hours or so, I turn the key, and i here an aweful grinding noise, it almost starts, then shuts off, I try again and Give it gas but not revinging jsut a slight ammount just enough to to give it more than when its at idle. It will start, i let off the throttle and it dies, it does this a few times then finally stays on. I got the car in august after i crashed my 97 sentra, the week I got it, I replaced the spark plugs, Wires, and Then in september I installed a short ram intake. Oh and when it does start my engine sounds like crud. and some weird sounds come from my exhaust. I have only put 7,000 miles on the car since august and has almost 150,000 an is due for an oil change in another 1,500 miles (3,000mile schedule). Oil Level is fine too, and My car doesnt smoke so i dont think its the engine dieing.
Sorry for the long post but I jsut thought I would include as much as possible. If you want more info please ask, and any help would be great. I just dont know what the grinding noise is, and it only does it when its cold, if the air temp is warm and the car is cooled off it wont do it, or if the car has been running then shut off then minutes later turned back on it doesnt do it. So any help?
Thanks
Justin

I've been having problems with the cold engine starting in the mornings as well. The way I solve it is right after starting the engine in neutral, when the engine is about to stall, I give it a couple of revs to 2-3k rpm. The car usually idles fine after this. I'm guessing its the cold weather or a vacuum leak. The short ram intake may be the culprit as well because I never had this problem with the stock air box.
yeah thanks, I have figured out the slight revving it to get it to stay runnign, ive almost got to a habit that i jsut give it a little gas right after I start it. I just wanted to make sure it wasnt my car dieing, My dad insists its the short ram intake, I took the stock airbox off in sept. so i never got to see if the stock airbox started fine in the cold, but thanks.
