89' sentra hops in first gear

when in first gear my 89' sentra will jolt (kinda like a hop) forward like ten times not just once and once i hit second gear it stops. if someone has had this problem before and could help that would be great. thank you for any suggestions.

you cant just open 3 of the same thread. as far as your tranny it verry well could be your driving habbits. just depends how jerjky your are with the clutch

I agreee with Skoodles, is probably the way you drive.

If anything, check your tranny fluid and service it regardless if its clean or not.

Swing by aamco and have them check it out or any other tranny shop.

They should know for sure...( use white pages and call ), but then again...they'll give you the " well...........we'd have to look at it" crap.

Have you had anyone else drive it ? if so, do they get the same response from the car ? if not....then its just you.

guys dont worry, he prolly accidently hit the button a few times, i took care of it..

for the driving.. how long have you been drivin, its is a manual.. cuz it sounds like you are poppin the clutch and the tires are grabbing (driving habits) like said before..

plus, im goin to move this to the b12 section.. as more people will have experience over there since this isn't a motor question

I'd still check the fluids...

Has the car ever hit a pretty descent size hole/bump really fast/hard ?

Hmmmm......just sounds like its not engaging the gears well....I guess.

Can you work on the car yourself ?
Do you know anything about tranny's ?

Cause if not....us trying to figure it out, wont help all that much since you'll have to take it to a shop anyway.

So just call a tranny shop like aamco or whoever, and see what they say over the phone, as well, if they drive it. usually, you can bring over there and for FREE, they can just drive it in the parking lot, and they'll usually know right off the bat.

Thats honestly your best bet.

Does this happen on upshift (starting out) and downshift from speed?

Sounds almost like some teeth might have broken off the first gear and arent engaging properly anymore.

Change your tranny fluid, if a ton of metal shavings come out with it, its time to open up the case...

This is a manual transmission right?

$100 bucks is a great deal for a running car! Id buy another Sentra or 2 for $100 bucks!

Let us know what comes out with the tranny fluid! Good luck!
