In-dash tach

Does anyone know if an instrument cluster from a sentra Sport Coupe would fit into a b-12 sedan? I know some of the panels are different. How about the tilt steering column. Would that bolt up? Also, What about the power steering off the sport coupe into the b-12. Is it doable? Anyone???

Im not entirely sure but i believe that the 2 panels can be interchanged with minimal modifications. I think the B12's already have tilt steering, look for a black level on the bottom of the steering column. Also the B12's came with a power assist steering, swapping to the steering rack from the sport coupe would likely be doable, but i dont believe that there is much difference between the 2.

I just finished installing the coupe instrument cluster in my '89 B12 wagon. When I bought the cluster, I made sure to get the wiring harness too [all the way back to the SMJ connector. But after emailing Greg, I could see that all you really need to do, is to cut the coupe's dash harness plugs off and get them with the cluster. This is important because they are different. Then you could simply cut and solder the existing harness, to the corresponding like colored wires from the original harness. It IS handy to have a shop manual when you do it though, to make sure you are doing it right. There are a few like colored wires in there, and you need to know which is which. Mine worked out nicely, and I'm glad I made the effort, as I don't like goofy looking tachs that are clamped to the steering column. I did that stuff 20 years ago.

***** Not all of the B12's have the tilt column. The base "Standard" model did not have it. The '88 base models were really stripped. They didn't have a day/night mirror, a pass side door mirror, low fuel light, power steering, front sway bar, inside trunk and fuel door release, map pockets on the doorpanels, domelamp switch for the pass door, trunk lamp, trip odometer, 5th gear, heck, some didn't even have a radio!

***** Hi Nick, I'm not sure who's being more foolish, you asking this question, or me answering it! But if you have one [which I doubt, because if you did it would also have the inside trunk release] it would be just below the right trunk hinge. Chow.

HEY GUYS!

What's up fellows! I was banging my way through some post when I had seen this one. I had seen my name mentioned and I melted with glee. I am not often a topic around these web sites, I'm just a dirtbag of sorts. . . YO Dropped89, wazzup wiff U how ya bin? Nice dual headlight conversion on that B12 too & how is the band comming along? Have not heard from you in a month of Sundays. . .

SENTRA STUD!!!!!!!!! What it B lyke cuz? Email me once in a wile guys, and how is that GLX huh? Holla bak if ya heer mi!!

BLOWN 310 Yo got the wag, wiff the thump, and da chrome! YO
wazzawicha potna? Why you guys just scratch me off, do even mail a fella no more. Yall still down with me though. In response to your post. . . You do NOT cut the wire ends and connect them to your NEW tach harnesses dangling wire ends, what you do is get a small eyeglasses screw driver set and pop out each wires tab from your NON-TACH harness, next repeat the same for the wire ends on the TACH-HARNESS's plugs. Match it up and plug and play! You will have to run a tach lead though, otherwise you not NOT cut any of your cars O.E. wire ends. Mail me for the picture of ther PROPER place to run the TACH lead to, proper meaning as outlined by a Nissan tecnician, NOT a guesser. FYI B12 tachs are NOT wired to ANY part of the distributor or in any area around the distributor (this applies to O.E. Nissan tach for B12 ONLY). Thanks for keeping me in memory guys. -Greg

Post Nissan CD UPDATE!

For you guys that ordered the CD from me, I still have NOT forgotten about you. I have had a flood of new images, I have collected Sentra (B12-B15) only one B11. Got a B11 mail me shots of it. No Stanzas yet? A33, J30, & J11 Maximas, ALL Z cars from 240-350, Pathfinders off-roading (even one street style w/20" wimz), Skyline R33, R32, R31, & even a RARE '60's model Datsun Skyline, Pulsars N12, & KN12 & a N12turbo, my tach install file, a mods that I know about file, a web sites for Nissan owners file with addresses & more. . . I have my personal video no sound start up (shows off the tach), my alternate flash turn signals/parking lights mod. It has some porn pics, I have a pic of my Optimus Prime '82 model, Some AWESOME motion video of Boostboy beating the crap out of a WRX Turbo and a S2000, there is more though guys. . . I found a dude with a digital cam-corder I will pay him to shoot a motion/sound of me doing a complete walk around of my B12 and a in depth of all mods and how I did it, and I plan to make a B12 burnout of my car (not photoshop this time) a real burn-out with my B12! WOW! I will do a B15 one as well. Hold tight fellas! As for a install of a tilt steer & a power rack. . . .
YEAH it can be done. The tilt steer will have to go to a metal shop because the non tilt shaft's holder is tak welded to the metal thingee (I know what it looks like do not know what it is called) it will need to be heated up and the retainer thingee pulled away. It is just tak welded at the top. Grab the parts from a tilt wheel model (GXE or SE) and bolt them it ALL OF THE STUFF IS THERE.
As for POWER STEERING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get the friggi'n rack & pinion, pump, & hoses, mounting plate, resevior is the pump too, cap, AND DO NOT FORGET THE BELT!!!!! Snatch out the old SH#T and tho in da new SH#T! A cake job. . . Why don't yall jus mail me when you gotta prob, Yall should no I din dun all dis SH#T B4 it's old hat 2 me. Fo all yall dat downt no, I have a tough @ss B12, not to sound cocky (lol), but it's tough! I look up to you guys regardless of all of the SH#T I talk, you all are the real KINGS! Swapping headlights and motors and body kits and wheels, I could only dream of this, could NEVER do it! My props to all of you all! My car sits on a drive way with no tags just a car to look at as you drive down the street that sits there day after month after year. Bad carb, O2 sensor, & axles. So I gave up, and there she sits. . . I have a B15 & a A33 both SE's and I talk more crap about my B12? I wish I could do what you all have done, I wish I could get a E15t in here, or replace my axles ON MY OWN. Enough about me, it's about you all and your ability to do it! Hit me up guys 301-390-9802 home 301-509-6176 cellie gconway1@msn.com Email lol - 87SE & Greg

P.S. FYI when it comes to tach clusters in B12 a GXE is the same as a SE. All a SE is is a 2 door GXE with more of a performance twist to it. . .

It sounds like its all doable then. Will I have to use any dash parts off of the donor car or will all my trim pieces fit around the tach cluster? And does anybody know what a decent price for a tilt steering column and all the power steering parts would be?
Thanks,
Steve W.

Dash Smash!

Dude that dash custer pops right in like a pus, ooops! Yea though it will fit right in correctly no need for further modification. You will need to however savalge a good contact pin from the wire cut-off from the tach harnesses plugs. This is for your tach lead, you can (A) strip the end of it and run a wire from there, OR (B) pry open the contacts ends and gently remove the old wire and run a completely NEW wire from the O.E. tab and soilder it into the tab, (like I did) tap a small hole into the fire wall or run it into or alongside the factory loom & finish. Be sure to remove the negative battery terminal before doing any/all electrical projects. The o.e. tach is delicate NOT like afermaket tachs, but you can do it.

As for the power steering rack assembly, dude you live in Roanoak Virginia, I live in Upper Marlboro Maryland, so prices may be the same. . . Plus it is a old car too, maybe $100.00 for it all. Might co$t another $500.00 to install though, but I always use the dealer. You may find a shop (side shop) that will do it cheaper.

Now the tilt wheel. . . This is NOT a different steering column they all HAVE THE SAME E, XE, GXE, SE, & GT. The column shaft is ALL THE SAME, non tilt ones have a bracket that the shaft passes through and this bracket is built so as to hold the shaft in ONE place/position this bracket is tak welded to the top of the thingee, once you pay a welder to unweld that & smooth it off, you can mount the tilt one at home. It's cheese cake my brother, cheese cake.

Guys stop being 'fraid (lol) to hit me at my crib, I have a mass assortment of pics that can help you . or swing past my house anytime it sits there all day long, come check it out! -Greg

Thanks for your help with the dash and steering column. Im going to go this week and scrounge the parts. I have a friend that works in the junkyard so he didnt say a thing when he saw me carry in a cutting torch. Ill have to get you to send me the pic on where to run the tach lead to, that would be a big help.
Thanks agin,
Steve W.
