a strange noise

When my car is running, there is this little realy fast ticking noise in my engine, it makes that noise when i first start it up, and when it just idles, then it'll make it when i'm going in first gear and half of second, then it quits. when i let it idle, it i press on the brake sometimes it quits, if i have my stereo on and press the brake it starts ticking again, i have no clue what it is, and all the places around here wanna charge to have them look at it, they charge alot around here too, so if anyone could help me figure it out.

If it sounds like it is coming from the head, then it is probably a loose rocker arm.

Welcome to the boards!

If the ticking sounds tinny or metallic it could be rusted or loose heat shielding. My '89 is plagued by this problem.

It could also be the timing chain guide. The GA16i has been know to have periodic problems with this. you may wanna check it out.
