popping valve seals (squished)

opened up my head today and to my surprise : 5 valve seals were squished by the springs... how the hell could they have pop off the guide ??? anyone ever saw that ??? could i have putted them in wrong in the first place ??

anyone care to explain to me how those "hard to put in place and get off" seal could have pop off and how to change them without doing the same error... currently im putting new ones in as dry as possible so the gasket can stick to the guide ... is there any better way ??

Crazy-Mart,
I have never seen that problem. Are you running a stock cam? If so, the problem of having the seals squished should not be occuring from too much lift. Are you crushing them when compressing the springs to assemble the head?

Question

Strange...never had that happen to me. I usually get 'em just started and drive 'em down with a deep socket and a hammer (Gently). You'll hear and feel 'em bottom out. Never heard of 'em 'squishing', though...Best of luck this time around!

well now i changed them.. atleast the one that were crushed ... and 1 of them that was coming off the guide ... probably did the same thing as off the other were sliding off there place and then by going sideways a bit would get caught by the inner spring (nismo one)... you know im using a .409" lift at the intake ... could it be because i have rev my engine too much ?? all of the one that were crushed werent on the guide anymore ... i did put them with a socket myself too and no they all seemed ok after ive putted the retainer on them .. (still got no ideas about it) at least i didnt have any internal damage
