I recently tore out the interior on my 82 4 door and under the seat there was a panel that was glued down with super adhesive and 4 10mm bolts I undid the bolts and started to break the seal andmanaged to do minor damage to said panel so I gave up so my question is what is that panel for dose it have a purpose in life or just added weight?

Under which seat ? if it is under the rear in the middle of the car, it is an access cover to get at the top of the gas tank from inside the car.

It was under the rear seat but it seams you would do more damage to the car using the pannel then just dropping the tank thanks for the info

Well, on the 89-90, it's used to get the fuelpump/sending unit in /out of the tank. makes it like a 20 minute job which given the age and condition of some of these cars, it is a better alternative then dropping the tank. I didn't have any trouble getting that panel off ? I think it just had a gasket around it, mine wasn't glued or anything just bolted down ?
