Okay, my car is sitting outside the school dead because it won't start up. We've been having idle problems lately (it'll drop down below 1000 RPM's and die) and it didn't start bakc up this morning when it died, just made clicky noises. This is probably a newb question, but I popped the hood and listened to the clicking while a friend tried to start it, and the noice was coming from the starter....but it seems like an alt. problem. If it helps, the car has been sitting in a garage for about a month. And I replaced the oil yesterday before i started driving it again.
if the car just clicks and wont start... that pbly means that your battery is drained out. Try to jump start it and put a volt meter to the battery. If the voltage is below 12V and keeps dropping it means that your alternator is fried and the car is just running off the battery. This happened to my dad's celebrity.. got it to the repair place, they tested it, my dad told me to bring it home so that he could change it.. put on the brakes and she died. eh well.. it happens

my pulsar did that, so has my friends honda. starters do that after quite a few hot miles. try compression starting it so you could at least get it home (if its manual i can't remember what yours is ). sometimes if you can move the car in gear and bump the starter it'll turn the starter over and the contacts will switch and work again.

This may sound a little odd, but how many clicking sounds would it make? When my alt. went bad it made i think 3 clicks. A friend of mine told me(I think this is what he said) Two clicks means the starter is goine bad and three clicks means the alt. or battery is going bad. I don't know if this is true but he was right for me.
hmmm... i think the amount of clicking has to do with how dead he battery is, or how bad he ground connection is, for those times when it's not the battery.
