oil pan gasket material??

GA16i engine, does anyone know what the oil pan gasket is made out of either from the dealer, or say from felpro? Is one material suggested over another? Does anyone make a rubber gasket? Thanks,

There is no gasket. The pan is sealed with Nissan Liquid Gasket or equivalent, a silicone sealer. Permatex makes an equivalent.

so from the factory there was no actual gasket just a silicone type gasket?? I see the auto parts sell gaskets for this engine, would it be better to just use gasket material like permatex or to buy a gasket?

The factory service manual says to use silicone sealant. It's best to follow their recommedations.

It's the grey stuff. You'll find it on most Nissan oil pans. Mitsubishi also uses it.

I got one from the auto store, looks like cork..ya have to remember that those manuals are pretty old and Chiltons probably gets there info from old factory manuals..Nissan may have changed there mind about not using gaskets, call up a dealer and ask the parts guy..
