I am adding a second muffler to my '90 Sentra. I currently have no cat, a 12" cheapo louvered glasspack, and a fartcan at the rear. After I removed the cat (please no tree-hugger comments) because it was plugged, the car became obnoxiously loud.

So now I have an 18" glasspack with a perforated core and was thinking maybe it would do a better job if it was placed where the cat used to be and and replaced the old glasspack with a straightpipe.

Any thoughts on whether the placement of the muffler affects the overall sound/loudness of the exhaust?

where the muffler is can affect the resonation and tone. i would just put that muffler where the cat was and leave everythign else where it is, you'll like it
