head gasket gone huh..

was driving back from skool today (Davis) and all of a sudden BOOM..engine starts dying, fluttering occurs. I pull to the side of the road and there is coolant from the reservoir that sputted out. One of the spark plug wires was off...cylinder 3 i believe. It was smoking and yea..not a good site. I tried cranking it over after putting the sparkplug wire back on..and all it would do it smoke..specifically around the sparkplug region. Also the valve cover gasket was bad..u could see oil trying to spute out as well. So is my head gasket toasted or what? After getting it towed, I tried cranking it over and it would start to get at it...but then not work. It would crank..but not crank over. It sounds like there's no oil in it..but there is. How much is it for a headgasket and how hard is it to change? I appreciate n e 1's input.

Wow, not sounding too good. Sounds like at the very least it overheated. What happened after that is hard to tell. If you're pushing oil out the valve cover gasket I'd say there is an excessive amount of pressure in the crankcase. Not a good sign. The "no oil" sound is also real bad.

You're probably gonna have to tear into it to find out exactly what went wrong.
