I was driving along and this indicator light came on. it was on the left of the steering wheel, i think it's the headlight symbol, but it was red. I didn't know what it was for. then my e-brake light came on. this same problem happened to me on my other car, and my alternator belt was loose (mounting bolt broke off). so I check the belt on the sentra, and it's fine. maybe the battery is not holding the charge? now I don't know, is it the alternator or battery? just asking to be safe, I don't wanna spend on both, unless I need to.

Go to Advance auto to get them to test yur ish. But i dont know about the brake light thing. My brake light stays on all the time for no reason
I have one of those cheap $10 volt meters that I use...I check the battery with the car off(should read about 12 or 13 volts)..I then start the car and it should read about 14 or 15 volts then I know my alternator is good..The battery you really can't tell if its good or bad unless you have a load tester(bring it in to Carquest or one of those free battery alternator checker auto stores)
My Sentra's been a bit messed up lately, the battery acts like it won't hold a charge but you hook it up to a voltmeter and it's good...turns out the little red alternator wire is not attached to the battery....if that helps any...might check that out...
