About two weeks after an oil change I realized that my car was making a clicking sound. I didn't relate my recint oil change to the clicking, so the first thing I did was check my regular fluids for anything abnormal (as I thought to myself “I just changed my oild so that has to be good”). I even put some transmission fluid in because of a recent axel change. Two nights ago driving home the clicking sound was still there going 60mph. That is when my stomach dropped to the ground in realizing that it could only be oil. When I got home I popped the hood to find everything else but oil. The engine stops making a clicking sound, but does anyone know what the long term effects of running that low on oil do to an engine?
And does anyone think that getting a new O2 sensor will increase gas mileage from my current 26.9?
I ran my engine out of oil a while ago( I had my gauges out and my oil sending unit randomly broke off), I started hearing a slight clicking sound along with what sounded like a large vacuum leak(probably the oil pump spraying the oil all over the firewall, but after I got the sending unit replaced the engine seems to run like it never happened. I don't know about the gas mileage question, usually when the o2 sensor fails mileage drops signifigantly( I believe I was getting aroung 20) but it's still a possibiltiy, whens the last time you has a tune-up and what all was replaced/checked?
I ran about 2.5 qts low a little while back :dumbass: The car was running like crap. When cold, the idle would run up to like 2800rpm even after 30+ minutes of driving. The ONLY way I could get it back down was to restart the engine. Changed the oil and it's back to running great. It's been about 1,000 miles and it aint burned a drop.
i'd say you might be ok. only way to know is find out. 26 is kinda high if your O2 was bad. The best i ever got was 23, then I changed O2 and got 35

my b11 will get loud when i get about 1qt low. that's when i know to put more oil in. I don't recommend doing that often. I also notice that when my oil gets low i get surges in pressure where it goes 50 lbs - 70 lbs - 50 lbs when the sump is totally dry but i have a non standard oiler setup and can get away with being dumb.
you might also need to adjust valve clearances, mine gets the angry sweing machine noise when the valves need adjusting.
hopefully you arent hearing the oil depletion clicking that you sometimes get if you drive the car for a while and park for an hour or 2 and start the car while the block is warm and all the oil has left the head, I got mine to hte point where it only does that very briefly.
