Electronic Control Module problems

I have run into a problem with my daughter's 1987 Sentra XE which seems to be related to the control module located under the passenger seat. The car just "conks out" for no apparent reason and won't restart - motor just keeps turning over. I had a friend take a look and he thought one of the transistors in the module was not working properly. A new factory module is over $400 ! which is just about what the car is worth. Does anyone know if this can be fixed or how to go about it?

go to a junkyard and look for one there

do you know what engine is in it? I can send you one for an E16s for the cost of shipping, I can't guarantee that it works though because it came off my parts car.
