AFter everyones suggestions I'm pretty sure my vacuum hoses are bad thus cause my rough idle and wistling while driving (hoping the wistle isnt coming from a soon to be blown head gasket)
My question might be stupid but where are the vacuum hoses on our cars? What do they look like?
How can i tell they are bad?
How do I go about replacing them? DO I buy new vacuum hoses?
Any other advice would help me. I'd like to do this before it gets way to cold for it..
Thanks guys

they're in the engine bay around the intake manifold and they're usually about a 1/4inch thick rubber hose. if they are bad they will either have cracks in them or not fit securely onto the fitting. When you replace them, do it one at a time or get a haynes, chiltons, or factory service manual to help you make sure the hoses are in the right place. when you replace them always use at least fairly new hoses, because vaccum leaks can cause crazy problems that are difficult to track down.

(best Arnold voice) Ya, vought he said. Check to get a ballpark on how much of what size(s) and buy it off the spool for like 20 cents/foot. Or go to the dealer and pay 2$/inch for custom fit. I remeber Myet posted a thread with an excellent illustration of the vacuum system.

there is a diagram of this in a chilton, and haynes too like the guys already said .. also I think you can use carb cleaner to hunt down a leak if it hit a break the idle will increse. a good to get would be a vac gauge to see if you have a leak in your system.. hopre my 2 cent isn't mis informative .. plz correct me guys thx RED

What about Silicone Hoses? I replaced my rubber hoses with silicone after having replaced every hose and less than 2 years later they are already getting hard. Are there any down sides to using Silicone??
