Limited Slip Differentials

I contacted Phantom Grip and they will make up a custom LSD unit for the B11/B12 5 speed tranny for $350 if you send them your differential.

would you think you would need LSD with 70 HP?? not that it isn't nice to have LSD anyway and it sound like a nice price .. at least it's not 500+......

Actually, it's like a block that is inserted between the spider gears on the diff. I have one in the old tranny that got wiped-out from the accident last year. It worked okay.

Not much as the phantom grip keeps both your wheels ready to roll!

Just okay? I'll hazard a guess and assume your helical lsd outperforms the phantom. True?

Would you recommend the phantom as an economical upgrade for your average street driver? Most of us aren't tearing up the track with 500+ hp.

Any drawbacks to the phantom?

does it lock it or is it actually a limited slip? i know its a dumb question but i had to ask. my concern is does it do its job in snow and ice?

Oh ok, it appears to be very similar to a PowerTrax Lock-Right. It doesn't appear that you'd really get much limited slip action from it, that it would function almost entirely fully open or fully locked. Probably not a bad thing except for minor steering issues.

No doubt! I have yet to hear the tires break free from a heavy launch! They did with the phantom grip, but not nearly as much as the open differential. There aren't too many drawbacks seeing the the price the unit costs and the performance you gain. It's a worthy investment and highly recommend it!

Great info. Sounds like just the ticket to give an edge when encountering Honda's.

There is already aphantom grip in existence for the 91-94 GA, which should use the same diff as the GA16i. I would look it up at Nissan to be sure, before you pend $350 plus shipping for a heavy ass diff.
