could the clutch cable assembly for the 16 be used or even modified to work on the 18? I love the way cabled clutches feel. And does any one know how much more the ca18det weighs than the E16? Because I'd like to keep manual steering if at all possible when I do the det swap.(it's harder to "feel the raod" with power steering)
why exactly is the ca16de tranny so weak? and to what extent/power level are we talking?
Because it's built on the same platform as the GA series trannies (garbage). They have 5th and 1st gear pop-out and will eventually break from abuse. The Ca18DE's tranny shares the spotlight with the Stanza and Maxima therefore making it nearly indestructable to under-powered cars. I have yet (to date) busted a CA18DE tranny! My current trannies are hybrids, but the CA18DE tranny is the best way to go (Trust me on this).

btw....if i can ask, what car have you put the ca18de non turbo swap into?.....and what is the power/perf. level of that right now?
My first and only swap was done on my own car after I had completely got tired of thissues the CA16DE was causing. I moved to CA18DE and mated it to my CA16DE's tranny and had some fun, but the tranny started scratching gears and eventually started whining. I didn't give it a chance to blow-up and tossed it for a CA18DE unit. Better top end, much more relaxed rpms while crusing at 90mph and a much more durable set-up in general. And hydraulic is waaay better than the cable (Trust me on this as well). Well, as you already know I've evolved to using the CA18DET which is a better bang for the buck and wirth every headache I've ever gotten.........Hands down...............

Not a chance of that happening.

Around 60-80lbs.

It's obvious that you've never really had power let alone it be influenced by a turbo, well let me tell you a thing or 2, ditch the manual crap and forget about the old trusty cable clutch set up. It's not easy controlling the car with a manual steering system and the CA18DET should not be in association with the CA16DE tranny or you'll be changing it sooner than you think. Take my advice boys or test it. That choice is strictly up to you all and I wish you all the very best of luck.

cool, I guess I'll just have to get used to power steering and hydro-clutch.( I was hoping I could save some space under the hood ) It's gonna be strange for a while not having a 2/3 empty engine bay! And while we're kind of on the subject of the ca18det, have you seen this thread yet? Any opinions on the subject? http://www.nissanforums.com/showthre...threadid=33246

Thanks for backing me up on this one. I posted a while back regarding hydraulic rules over cable. Cables suck. They stretch, they rust, they break, they need adjustment.... and worst of all, they're stiff. Your leg gets tired alot faster in traffic. Cable is a cheap alternative. If it were better, we would probly have cables to operate the brakes too(maybe not on a b12 lol). Apply the why cable sucks logic to your ebrake... if it works.
