Any advise as to what type of paint I should use? i.e. matt vs. shinny... should i use spray paint? or should i brush paint? should i remove all the rubber accessories before painting? or is taping them up sufficient?
Thanks in advance for any advice..

do you want the long or short of it? ...ok than, here's the short...
first you have to take the door off, than take out the back window, than...o..did you think i was serious!!! j/k!
get 1/2" thick masking tape, newspaper or some other think colored paper, if you use white paper, chances are the paint will leak through...1-2 cans of grey primer, 1-2 cans of Gloss black or Flat black, your choice, and one sheet of something rough like 250+ and one sheet of something softer like 150- grit or so sandpaper..
next, take your mirror off, it shouldn't be too hard to figure out, and dont forget to go easy on it cuzz its only a nissan...j/k..its a joke, get it? that too was a joke...ok I'll stop now while I'm ahead...
then, you want to start with the really harsh sandpaper, and go over all the metal spots where you want to spray, no need to sand any plastic unless its really smooth.
also, you dont need to sand that much with this stuff less is more here, you just want to see the shiney chrome mettal turn duul...
when you've gone over the area you wish to paint with the harsh sandpaper, go over the area again with the smooth sandpaper to smooth things out a little...clean up by blowing or wiping off and sanded flakes of metal or paint, than you should be done with the sanding...
next, begin masking off both edges of the seem your going to be spraying, and lay down a light coat of grey primer, just go lightly on each coat, or the paint may run. when the area your spraying is completly covered with grey, begin laying down the color you want. again, just go slow and easy on each coat to prevent running...
after your sure all you want painted is, and let dry for a few minutes, give the paint more time than normal if its colder out...when its dry, remove the masking tape/paper put mirror back on and enjoy...
if you read this far without falling asleep than you should know also about clear coat...its not entirely nessesary, but it will save from minor dings and scratches, just get like 1-2 cans and lay down a few coats after your final layer of paint and before you remove the masking tape and paper.
