...at least here in Europe. I was walking done the street a couple of hours ago, and saw a B12 sport coupe with a "GTI 16 valve twincam" badge, that looks exactly like the one on the N13 Pulsar SE (minus the GTI). Anyone know if Nissan built the B12 with the CA18DE engine?? I'm assuming that's the engine because it would be an easy fit due to the engine already being engineered for the N13. hmmm.....Oh yeah it also had the factory Nissan bodykit, and did NOT sound like any e or GA-series engine I have ever heard. Whatever it was, I am definietly looking into this!!!

HAH!!! They also made a CA16DE powered B12 called the 1.6GTI. That is one awsome looking body kit too!
I SOOOOO want to bring one of these home.

I was more enthusiastic about the 1.8L engine. The CA16DE is still good, but it's not the CA18DE

Yeah Nissan built a B12 with a CA18DE engine. We have quite a couple on our roads. They came decked out with alloy wheels, leather seats, aircon, disk brakes all round, hydraulic clutch, full house. In South Africa it was not called a Sentra at all but simply a 1.8 16v Twincam.
They were sold between 1988 and 1992 with slight cosmetic changes. The later models had turn signals incorporated in the front corner lights (parks). Thet also had redesigned rear light clusters (more rounded design)
They came in both coupe and box shape. These cars at one stage were termed the most powerfull four cylinders on our roads with a reputed 100kw (135hp) on tap in standard form.
Today they sell for anyhting between 15k - 30k ZAR ($1500-$3000) and good ones are still to be found.
I am getting one as soon as the E engined coupe I own now stops entertaining me
For our American sport coupes, I bet if you swapped in a CA18, installed disk brakes, got better wheels, reupholstered with leather, got the appropriate body kit and painted it, etc...(in other words, everything we never got).
It would probably be cheaper than getting the real one sent to you. Hehehe... Sounds like a plan to me... Not to mention, you'll feel good about all of the time, money, and work you put into it.
Man, They're relatively cheap over there then... That must be great. But you don't get some of the things we get like.. Uh... NASCAR.. and uh... Pro Wrestling... Damn it.
Hey Dean I've got a 1.8i its sweet. Unfortunately it was run up in the Free-state on hard water, so its getting a new head gasket/rebuild right now. But it does have a Sentra badge on it I assure you.
With the rebuild(to factory spec) new tires, radiator, and a few other minor things it tapped me for $3200 total so far. It came with a new clutch/rebuilt steering rack and a few other bits fixed as well.
Pretty hefty, but once I break it in I am so going to kick the piss out of it on a local track.
Any idea about the compression ratio on them? I read 10.5;1 in a few places, that seems awfully high.
we're there any aftermarket or factory disk upgrades for the four disk version that just bolted on, It seems like there would be since we can get stuff like that for the B12 here. I just like the idea of getting a 4-wheel disk setup for my sedan and not having to do any in the rear as far as modification goes.
I was told by someone at the Nissan club SA to be wary of a Sentra badged 1.8 Twincams. Fact is that it is easy to use a 1.6 GXE shell fit a CA18 and sell it for the price of a 1.8 Twincam. According to him Nissan never intended the car to be known as a Sentra.
The CA18DE as far as I know is square engine with a compresion ratio of 10:1
think the gti's had 125hp. hard to find in good condition here, lots are shot by guys who didn't know what they were drivin. these cars were famous for bein little rockets and golf gti or whatever killers.
Cool, I know it's a twincam, I had to take those ugly red letters off the side. I haven't the means to swap one into another car.
The reason this engine is troubled is the South African's generally poor auto-mantinence ethic. My engine is being rebuilt, cause my mech, had trouble locating a good JDM CA18. They are rare.
I hope I have crossed that bridge with my car, and can have something solid. I am sure stock for stock, it's as fast as an SE-R or STi.
The rear discs for B12 are the same as the rears on an SE-R I think. I'll look up the code in Haynes later. Myet has this conversion I think. Also we get a viscous limited slip on South African CA18's
My favorite Geman proverb is "Ich schlacht dich Krankenhaus" or I beat you hospital.
