HI I recently purchaced a 88' Sentra(B 12) with an automatic tranny. The breaks locked up and I found out that the rear mount that bolts on to the trans was ripped clean out of the housing on the trans!!! There are 3 bolts that held it on and the one bolt on the bottom wasnt even in!! The two upper bolt holes in the case still has some thread left in them( about half an inch on each hole in the trans...just enough tread to bolt it back in) The trans runs good. HOwever I went to the Nissan dealer to find out that my mount looks nothing like the one that came in the car. I have two questions.....1. can I use a manual trans mount ? and 2. should I risk bolting the old mount back into the trans with new hardwear or just try to find a new case for my trans?
I don't know about the mount difference, but just helicoil the bolt holes, locktite them, and torque to specifcation. Try getting a factory sevice manual. Sometimes hard to find, but well worth the investment
Thanx for the advice Pulsar...man you were right on time!!!!! Hey I Just finished putting the mounts on and its seems to be pretty solid......but I have another prob I had to remove the motor to drill out some studs that broke off into the block . Needless to say I got them out with a reverse spin drill bit and a # 3 extractor. thats the good news.... bad news is I droped the motor back in and it wont turn over!!! Ive been over all my electrical conections and everything is in order( I know this cuz I went over it about 50 times making sure). what do you think I should try??
yep the swap has been done several times before. Just find a a 5 speed stick hooked up to an E16i. youll need to get the ECU and the clutch petal/ interiors parts too.
ive done the swap.... not easy one ... the mount for the manual doesnt do for an auto and vice-versa... plus if you go manual, youll have to change the driver side mount wich is bolted 2inch too much near the battery (you dont want to keep changing bolts?? or even a broken tranny !!) ill look for the thread i made about it...
youll need :
tanny
shift linkage
clutch
flywheel
the 2 axle for the manual (auto just wont fit)
clutch cable and boots(firewall)
clutch pedal assy (with the bolts)
brake pedal from a manual (curved to the right to clear the clutch)
Ecu from a Manual
engine mount driver side
engine back mount complete (with the dogbone)
about 2 pint of gear oil too
the console trim piece that goes around the shifter (unless you grind up the one you got...youll see
about 2 days of work !!
best bet : donor car....

ps if you stick with the auto one ... change off the back mount to the one listed by nissan... thats why it broke in the first place, and it wont stop till you change it (ive messed up a casing like that) trust me !! and it was a good tranny i coulnt use anymore...

Im going to stick with the automatic for now ,but I hope to swap out the tranny for a manual in the near future. For right now Im going to take your advice and swap out the rear mount for the one listed by nissan(found a car in the scrap yard....Hey I thought it was strange that this mount didnt bolt to the firewall with an upper mount....I'll make sure to tell you how it turns out.
well, Im seriously considering doing the swap myself now. The 3 speed auto is leaking tranny fluid from the gasket now. Maybe its time to junk the old box and get a 5 speed.
